Profile: Dr Tony Lachman

Dr Tony Lachman, a graduate of the University of the Witwatersrand, is currently a Freelance Cardiologist in Cape Town. He returned, after training in Cardiac Pathology at the NHLBI in Bethesda Md, and then spent 28 years initially in academic and then later in private practice in Connecticut, USA, affiliated with the University of Connecticut and Yale Medical schools. He has also lectured in Cardiology in China and Pakistan for the American College of Physicians.

Tony returned to South Africa in 2005 and devoted himself to serve populations without adequate Cardiac services, initially in the North West Province, Klerksdorp/Tshepong Hospital and subsequently at Secondary level Hospitals in Cape Town, particularly Victoria and 2 Military Hospitals after spending a year at GSH.

He also consults at the Obstetric Unit at Groote Schuur in the High Risk Pregnant Congenital Heart and Valvular and Cardiomyopathy Clinic.

His cardiology interests involve Preventative Cardiology, Adult Congenital Heart Disease and Structure-Functional Relationship in heart disease using imaging technology.

His interests include hiking, music, travelling to visit family, working with his Australian Shepherd dogs and enjoying life in the Cape with his life partner, Nancy.
